Can you use peptides with kojic acid?
The chemistry
Kojic acid inhibits tyrosinase (Saeedi 2019). Cosmetic peptides are aimed at collagen and wrinkles, with modest trial support (Gorouhi 2009; Ledwoń 2021). There is no known chemical conflict. Kojic acid's irritation and allergy potential (Nakagawa 1995; Zilles 2022) is the main consideration. Peptides are large molecules that sit mostly near the surface, while kojic acid is small, so applying the watery kojic serum first and the peptide cream afterwards suits their textures.
Different goals
Pigment and firmness.
Allergy
Patch test kojic acid.
SPF
Daily.
Common mistakes
This combination often appears in anti-ageing brightening serums. Introduce products one at a time. Kojic acid oxidises, so keep it cool and closed. Many people in their thirties and forties want to treat both sun spots and early lines, and this pairing addresses both with relatively gentle ingredients. The catch is that neither ingredient is especially strong. Kojic acid has moderate evidence as a brightener (Saeedi 2019), and peptide evidence is mainly small, sponsored studies (Ledwoń 2021). Sunscreen does more for both goals than either serum. A reasonable routine is kojic acid in the morning under sunscreen and a peptide moisturizer at night, or the reverse if kojic acid stings in sunlight. If you later want stronger results, a retinoid at night replaces the peptide as the main anti-ageing step, and many dermatologists would suggest that first. Watch kojic acid for allergy signs: itching, redness and small bumps a few days after starting (Nakagawa 1995). Replace kojic products that have browned. Peptides are generally inert in terms of irritation; reactions usually trace back to fragrance or preservatives in the formula.

Stop kojic acid if a rash appears.
Evidence strength
Moderate for kojic acid (Saeedi 2019) and limited for peptides (Gorouhi 2009; Ledwoń 2021). Untested together.

Can I layer them?
Yes.
Which first?
Thinner texture.
Any interaction?
None known.
Results?
Months.
Sunscreen?
Yes.
Is this better than retinol?
Probably not; retinoids have stronger evidence.
Can I add vitamin C?
Yes, in the morning.
Pregnancy?
Ask your doctor; kojic acid data are limited.
Do peptides slow kojic acid irritation?
Not directly; a plain moisturizer is the better buffer.
Can I use them on the neck and chest?
Yes, these areas often show both sun spots and crepey skin; patch test kojic acid there first because neck skin is thinner.
What if my peptide product already contains kojic acid?
Then skip the separate kojic serum to avoid doubling up.
